Clothing Swap for Earth Day!
We know that our desires to stick to our morals and only wear sustainable clothing is sometimes in conflict with our budget, which is what makes a clothing swap such an amazing experience. Come together with friends to celebrate Earth Day at Echoview and swap some of your favorite gently worn favorite clothing that you just don't seem to wear enough to justify the space in your closet. Leave with some new-to-you duds that may well become your absolute favorites!
We won't be stopping at just a clothing swap though because what we really want is to spread a little knowledge of the importance of sustainability in fashion. A lot of people find this issue to be a bit of a massive downer, so we will be packaging the facts in digestible talks and demos around laundry and garment care, mending, material and fiber selection (for when you do go shopping), an indigo dye vat, sustainable shopping goals for the year, and oodles of resources and brands that we love to shop with that don't make you compromise your morals.
Important Notes About The Swap:
Please only bring clothing that has been gently used, freshly laundered and free of stains.
We will begin taking clothing, shoes and bags (handbags, satchels, totes, etc) for the swap on April 11th. We will accept items for the swap up until April 21st at 12:30pm.
Clothing will be available for "purchase" for those who don't bring clothing for the swap for a suggested $1-5 donation per item after 2:30pm.
All remaining items will need to be picked up by April 25th, at which time everything will be donated to Western Carolina Ministries and Habitat For Humanity.
Notes About The Indigo Dye:
Please bring freshly laundered clothing made from natural fibers (wool, silk, cotton, etc). It's ok if these pieces have stains or other imperfections, the indigo dye will cover everything!
11:30am-12:30pm All items for the swap will be accepted and sorted.
Indigo Dye Pot will be open for dying and refreshments will be available.
12:30pm Clothing will be open for swapping! Changing rooms will be available for use.
Mending workshops will be open in our classrooms. Learn to patch a hole in your jeans or repair a damaged sweater.
2:30pm Clothing will be open for "shopping", if you haven't brought clothing for swapping, each item will be available for a suggested $1-5 donation.
