Botanical Dye 101

Botanical Dye 101

Saturday, March 24, 12-5 PM

Come learn the basics of Natural Dyeing so that you can turn kitchen scraps, random weeds in your garden, or plants you hunt the internet for into beautiful colors. We will be explaining the basics of fiber selection, mordanting, and the dying processes for natural fibers. Class fee includes one scarf, skein of yarn, but we will have a range of other pre-mordanted and dyeable items available so you can experiment with other colors if you can't make up your mind. You'll get to try out several dye vats, and receive instructions you can take home with you to experiment with, or jump on the dye-train when your favorite dye plant is in season.

Julie Jensen is the founder of Echoview Fiber Mill and avid natural dyer. She has been studying natural dye plants and techniques around the world for years, and brings her own creativity to the process in each vat of dye.
